Thank you for your interest in our work! Please click through the sections below to find out how to apply for various positions in our lab.

  • At the moment, we are focusing on applicants interested in wet lab work, particularly cell and molecular biology. There will likely be separate calls for researchers interested purely in computational work in the future. Having some computational skills (for example ability to code in python for data analysis) is a plus, but by no means required. It is expected that successful applicants will have basic computer literacy and basic knowledge of Microsoft excel, word and PowerPoint.

While having prior experience in cell and molecular biology is advantageous, the most important attribute is passion about the research we do, scientific integrity and commitment to doing well thought of experiments and undertaking high quality research.

A proportion of our work is collaborative with researchers from Rutgers and elsewhere. This exchange in expertise greatly expands the spectrum of work we and collaborators are able to do and the type of questions we can explore. We are looking for pleasant and kind individuals with a collaborative spirit, who are willing to work conductively with colleagues of all levels of seniority and facilitate a pleasant, fun and supportive work environment.

All positions are 100% in person. Remote work is not allowed.

  • -Exciting and innovative research projects on the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases.

-Inclusive, pleasant and kind work environment that enables the success of people from diverse backgrounds.

-It being a new lab, the PI still spends most of her time doing experiments at the bench; therefore, she is easily accessible and members can benefit from extensive direct mentorship and training, which is especially valuable for students and entry level technicians. The PI enjoys mentoring trainees. 4/4 of her current and previous mentees have been accepted into competitive graduate programs:
    MD/PhD Mayo Clinic
    MD/PhD Tufts
    MD Rutgers RWJMS
    PhD KU Leuven, Belgium.

-Being part of a great institution and department, with friendly and collaborative faculty, wide variety of core facilities and no limitations in terms of the scope of research we can undertake.

-The department has a T32 training grant from which eligible trainees in the lab can benefit for funding.

-Collaborations with multiple faculty from Rutgers and elsewhere.

-Appropriate mentorship, training and support for career development by the PI to all researchers in the lab as needed, regardless of their position or career stage, to enable their success and achievement of their professional goals.

-Everybody’s contribution to our research (including undergraduates, technicians etc.) is appropriately and fairly acknowledged through authorship/co-authorship on published manuscripts.

-Well funded and equipped lab, with modern research space and comfortable desk space.

-Location in the Northeast in the New York City metropolitan area that offers an endless variety of recreational activities. There are frequent direct trains from New Brunswick to downtown Manhattan.

  • Please email Eleanna with the following information:

-Curriculum Vitae, including list of publications

-Short description of your previous research, and why are you interested in joining my lab

-Contact information for 2-3 referees who can provide letters of recommendation.

    Rutgers sponsors visas for internationals.

Application for external funding in the form of postdoctoral fellowships (e.g. EMBO, HFSP, LSRF, etc.) is encouraged for career development purposes, and appropriate support will be provided by the PI in preparing such applications. However, having external funding is not a requirement to be considered for/offered a position; appropriate financial support, as per institutional guidelines, will be provided by the lab to postdocs offered a position.

  • We do not do direct admits for PhD students (as per institutional policies). Interested students should apply to the Molecular Biosciences, Quantitative Biomedicine and/or to the Neuroscience PhD program, through which we will be recruiting.

PhD students who have been admitted to the aforementioned Rutgers PhD programs and would be interested in rotating in my lab should email me with the following information:

-Short description of your previous research experience, and why are you interested in joining my lab

We accept rotating students for the 2023-2024 academic year and anticipate that we will recruit at least one graduate student to join our lab for their thesis starting in 2024.

  • The lab accepts undergraduate students from Rutgers. Please fill in the application form in the link, and also email Eleanna with your CV and unofficial transcript.

No prior research experience is needed. Training will be provided in all skills required for the student’s project, as well as appropriate day to day supervision.

Preferences: Honors students who will complete thesis, interest in applying to graduate school, GPA > 3.5, work at least 10-15h/week during the semester and 30-40h/week during the summer, strong work ethic, commitment of at least 2-3 years (i.e. the full duration of their degree) including summers.

Undergraduate students in the lab undertake serious research. The applicant must have a genuine interest in research and in the work undertaken in our lab and be committed to improving their research skills and progressively develop research competence. Exceptional support will be provided to the student in that direction, and it is anticipated that the incumbent will take full advantage of the training and professional development opportunities provided. The student will start by joining in ongoing research projects; it is anticipated that recruits showing exceptional progress in developing their research skills will eventually be assigned their own separate project and function at the level of a graduate student.

    1) Entry level technician: This position is ideal for individuals who would like to get 1-3 years of full time research experience fresh out of undergraduate studies before applying to graduate school (MD, PhD, MD/PhD). Some prior research experience is expected, though extensive research experience is not required. The applicant must have a genuine interest in research and in the work undertaken in our lab and be committed to improving their research skills and progressively develop research competence. Exceptional support will be provided to the recruit in that direction, and it is anticipated that the incumbent will take full advantage of the training and professional development opportunities provided. The technician will start by joining in ongoing research projects; it is anticipated that recruits showing exceptional progress in developing their research skills will eventually be assigned their own separate project and function at the level of a graduate student.

    2) Experienced technician/lab manager: The appointed lab manager will assist with the day to day operations of the lab (arrange for equipment and lab space maintenance, purchase consumables, implementation of safety measures, administrative matters of the lab, etc.). They will also participate in the ongoing research in the lab and help train/mentor more junior members. It is expected that the incumbent will already have significant experience in cell and molecular biology and can work independently. Applicants must hold a Master's Degree in Neuroscience, Biology or a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience, Biology or a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.

  • We accept visiting undergraduate and masters students from the United States or abroad. Please contact Eleanna with your curriculum vitae, as well as a brief description of previous research experience and research interests to discuss possibilities.

We also participate in the cooperative education program administered by Northeastern University (6 month full time paid research internship during undergraduate degree). Job openings will be advertised on Northeastern University’s portal and eligible undergraduate students can apply using that route.

Prospective summer students: We are getting a high volume of inquiries for those positions. Please contact Eleanna early to ensure that there is availability of space.

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to welcome high school researchers at this time.
